Marie Culp

Marie Culp had spent her entire life making people look beautiful.  Now she was looking forward to a trip to the orient with friend Min'imah Zarif and five of Zarif's other friends from the Greater Detroit area.

Five years earlier, Marie had gotten to know a family from Japan while on a cruise; Culp was planning to see them while on the Japanese leg of her journey.  Marie was a widow, 75, and had retired from ownership of a beauty shop in Pontiac, MI.  Personal friend John Herron, interviewed by the Detroit free Press, said Culp was "really excited" about going.
